Summary/Abstract: Migration is often regarded as a fundamental challenge of our age. Political theory has a crucial role in interpreting the questions that arise in the topic and proposing solutions to those questions. However, the mainstream of the political theory of migration is biased by some assumptions that prevent the creation of a systematic and action-guiding approach. The paper aims to show that contemporary republican political theory has a valuable potential to discuss issues of migration. The paper identifi es four elements of Philip Pettit’s republicanism, that political theory of migration could use to its advantage while addressing the topic of migration. Then, it demonstrates that Pettit himself does not harness the potential of this republican approach, but rather reproduces the presuppositions of the mainstream political theory of migration.
