Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on teacher´s authority in our democratic society. This pedagogical and psychological construct is considered to be important in the relation to the role of a leader that is an inseparable part of teacher´s profession. The aim of our study is to find out how authority is perceived by teachers at lower secondary education. The research method of the semantic differential has been used. The research sample consists of 607 respondents (86 % female and 14 % male).The analyses of results proved more positive than negative perceiving of the term “authority”. The variable that has a considerable impact on perceiving this term is teacher´s qualification.
