Summary/Abstract: In Anatolia, which is very rich in terms of cultural works, there is no doubt that carpets, kilim and other plain woven works are the most common. So much so that, it is possible to come across these woven works in many museums, private collections or houses. Apart from museums or collections, individually owned works are transferred from generation to generation and are often attached a great value and kept as family heirlooms. The majority of the owners of these woven works take a number of maintenance and protection measures because of these protective approaches. In our country, since studies done on textile protection and repair are limited and people are not informed of the enterprises and workshops operating in the field of protection-repair or because the costs of these processes are quite high, the owners of these woven works make wrong interventions by alternative methods within their own means. In this study, knowledge levels and approaches of the owners of ethnographically valuable carpets, kilim and other plain woven works regarding the protection and repair of these works were examined. The 39-question questionnaire forms prepared was filled out by face-to-face or telephone contact with the owners of these works. Questionnaires were prepared in three different categories, which are the section on demographic characteristics, the section where the level of knowledge about the woven works the owners possess and the section where protection-repair approaches were determined. The data obtained from the survey were analyzed with SPSS package program, and knowledge level and approaches of the owners of these works were interpreted. As a result of the interpretations of the findings, inappropriate interventions were determined, and recommendations regarding the subject were made. With this study, it is planned to create and develop the infrastructure to raise the awareness of the owners of the woven works and guide them about maintenance, protection and repair.
