FRONTEX AGENCY - HISTORY, PRESENT AND PERSPECTIVES -

Summary/Abstract: Border Security is one of the key points of any current discussion about the internal security of the European Union. The latest events pointed out that border security is an aspect that needs further attention. Entrusted with the coordination of the operational cooperation of the Member States of the European Union at it’s external borders, FRONTEX has grown as an EU Agency with a budget of around 6 million Euro in 2005 to an foreseen budget of 254 million Euro in 2016. The evolution of the Agency included also the staff and, most important its competences. Frontex is now a very important part in the complex mechanism that ensures the security of the EU external borders.
