Summary/Abstract: The title of this speech provokes to mention, even in a few words, the Christian tradition of worship of the Mother of God in numerous references to Her ministry in the work of salvation of Her Son Jesus Christ. I omit them to go to our national tradition of worship starting from the motherhood of the Blessed Mother to the belief in Her royal dignity. A lot has been already written about vivid Marian veneration at the dawn of our statehood, however exceptional veneration of Mary’s royal dignity in the life and literature of Jan Długosz (1415-1480) has been somehow disregarded. Jan Długosz saw in Jasna Góra “The most beautiful image of the Most Venerable Mother and the Most Dignified Blessed Virgin and Lady, Queen of the World and Our Queen, with a beautiful facial expression, who pervades those looking at Her by peculiar piety – as if you were looking at a living person”. This vision was also transferred to other objects that consolidated the new iconography of the image on the first three Jasna Góra prints with the Virgin Mary crowned, and the head of Christ left only with a halo and the outline of 3 cross beams.
