A few remarks on the importance of Poland's Baptism in the history of the Polish language

Summary/Abstract: The Author – as a linguist and language historian – tries to present various consequences of the adoption of Christianity by the young state of Mieszko I in 966. He focuses on the issues of the linguistic-cultural and European identity of Poles, emphasizing that a universalist vision of European countries would not have been possible without the integrating influence of the community of faith and values. In his opinion, the difficult questions of the present day (e.g. about the future of Poland and Europe) find a current answer in the heritage of the past, especially in the deposits of knowledge and tradition preserved in the language.
