Summary/Abstract: The reduction of costs of container shipment on the major trade roads is hindered by the imbalance in international trade. As a consequence, some difficulties in optimizing fleet management and effective use of storage space exist. This is due to the fact that empty containers have to be repositioned. As a result, shipowners bear higher costs, the ports infrastructure is being exploit to the verge of available capacity and the increased number of operating ships has a negative impact on the environment. The aim of the article was to present a solution that can reduce costs, waste of storage and transport space as well as the negative environmental impact. It is the innovation of the transport unit itself, the shipping container. This modern management strategy has been presented based on the SWOT analysis of the foldable container 4FOLD, which was invented by Holland Container Innovations BV.
