Development and role of “Park and Ride” car parks in Warsaw

Summary/Abstract: Transport congestion in these days is a big problem, especially in big cities. The „Park and Ride” system will allow to move car traffic on outskirts of the city. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the „Park and Ride” system in Warsaw influences traffic in Warsaw. Data on „Park and Ride” car parks collected by Public Transport Authority of the capital city of Warsaw was compiled with data on traffic in Warsaw available from the City’s Traffic Management in Warsaw. This work was based on the review of literature on city logistics and on scientific articles on the concept of the „Park and Ride” system. Study proves that „Park and Ride” car parks decrease traffic in a small extent, however this concept should be further developed, as it will allow to decrease traffic in city center.
