Summary/Abstract: The paper defines the basic concepts of waste management. The characteristics of the waste management system in Poland and the hierarchy of waste management are presented. Legal conditions that are obligatory in the operation of the waste management system. After analyzing the statistical data, it can be concluded that the inhabitants of Poland are producing more and more municipal waste. The waste management system strives for excellence. Activities that can support the process include ecological education of the society, the introduction of a biowaste module to separate waste collection, and, above all, efforts should be made to reduce the waste deposited.
