Summary/Abstract: The changes in demographic structure of a majority of European countries which are visible mainly by the progress in population aging have numerous consequences (both social and economic). One of the most important negative consequences seems the decrease in the potential labour force and the decline in financial efficiency of pension systems. The paper aims at evaluating current and future changes (and their economic consequences) in European demographic structures, with particular reference to Poland.
