Summary/Abstract: Nowadays, ensuring information security is an important area of study and research for the IT community, being one of the main priorities of various worldwide organizations, enterprises and governments. But for the increase of new attacks, the concern of the specialists was redirected towards developing and discovering useful technologies to provide protection against these kinds of attacks. The security of data information is a sensitive point and by stealing or damaging these, may lead to disastrous consequences for the integrity of an organization. These factors have led to the need for monitoring system resources that are transmitted through the network. A network monitoring system provides many possibilities for analysing packets which are captured from network traffi c using a special algorithm for generating and displaying useful information. Based on these, a security administrator can see step by step the actions that occur in a working session. Information is recorded in a chronological order in some special fi les, called logs, which can be used for discovering unauthorized access attempts above the resources of an informatics system. Most currently available systems provide automated processes for collecting, analysing and logging relevant events from the point of view of security information. These processes are executed simultaneously and independently regarding the type of the system or the volume of the records.
