Summary/Abstract: For most of its history, archeology has taken an indulgent approach to robberies and antique trafficking. The main response to these dangers was the publication of major discoveries made outside academia. As a result of this approach and the prominent role played by police techniques in investigating such crimes, investigations are mainly based on documentary investigations. This approach makes it more difficult to determine such essential factors in this area as the collection history or the date of discovery of an object. This paper provides an overview of the state of research on the fight against trafficking in antiques. It then proposes new ways of studying the collection of history, drawing on research projects on the use of archeometry to shed light on cases of robbery or trafficking involving the intervention of the police, the court or the government; hence its qualification as "forensics". Although the current state of knowledge does not allow for the presentation of new research, we believe that researchers and interested institutions should be aware of the opportunity to use archaeometry more directly in the fight against these scourges.
