IMPACT OF EUROPEAN FUNDS ON ROMANIA'S DEVELOPMENT AND MODERNIZATION

Summary/Abstract: Starting with January 1, 2007, Romania is the beneficiary of the EU financial support, made available through the Union policies, which cover all the development sectors of the country. Through this article, we aim to underline by concrete examples the progress registered in the development and modernization of Romania, as a result of the implementation of the projects financed through the European funds allocated, in particular, through the cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy. Analyzing the notable investments supported by the European funding, carried out in the fields of transport and environmental infrastructure, the development of enterprises, the modernization of the administrative capacity and of the sector destined for human resources, the improvement of the agricultural sector by modernizing the rural areas, stabilizing the incomes of the farmers and increasing the sustainability of the farms, we reach to the conclusion that a real performance in the modernization of Romania can be achieved only through the success of managing the processes of accessing and implementing the European funds, being the duty of the national public authorities to ensure their efficiency. Also, in order for the country's modernization to have an upward trend, it is necessary to adapt and simplify the national procedural framework for accessing and implementing European funds, so as to increase the confidence of the beneficiaries in the European support.
