Summary/Abstract: This text is a synthesis of the author’s theoretical considerations contained in a broader study about social role and value of media with media reality described and analysed in academic works in the field of media communication. The fundamental question asked in the text is a question about the functions that media perform in the everyday life of post-modern societies at the level of the mass audience; what needs they fulfil and how their mechanisms work (with particular focus on influence on receivers).
