Summary/Abstract: Researchers agree that the parents of children with disabilities experience courtesy stigma, which consists of a tendency to extend the stigma from a person directly affected by disability to people closely associated that person in the social structure. Whether and how they experience it, depends on many factors, just like the fact how they deal with it. One of the ways to counter or reduce the effects of stigma is to seek support from similar people or groups. In this context, there is an arising question about the possibilities of self-help groups of parents of children with disabilities in this area. The article will address the issue of courtesy stigma among parents of children with disabilities as well as the potential of self-help groups of parents dealing with it.
