Summary/Abstract: The author discusses selected areas of opportunities and threats in the process of creating the disabled people life independence. The main factors of life independence of these people are their strengths – potential, preserved despite of the disability, for example skills and self-reliance. The lack of self-reliance or additional disabilities are the weaknesses that make the independent functioning more difficult. Although, life independence is also determined by external factors, that can be considered as opportunities or threats. These are, for example, family upbringing, education, social attitudes or government support. For the detailed presentation of the issue, the author uses the SWOT analysis. Basing on it, she proposes to choose the best strategy of pedagogical activity in the area of life independence and self-reliance creating process of people with disabilities. According to authors’ opinion, it is the offensive strategy, that was also discussed in the article. The examples of practical actions in this area are discussed too.
