Summary/Abstract: The village circle dance or the village dance designates the socio-cultural institution from the traditional Romanian village invested with the function of organized fun and relaxation, where the central activity is dancing. The first public dance of young people marked the moment of maturity and was done through a certain social protocol, namely in pairs, proving their capability of integration in the adults’ community, with the prospect of marriage. The dance of the village, the place where bonds of friendship and love were formed for the purpose of marriage, today exists as a traditional institution only sporadically, as a demonstrative ethnographic reconstruction, being replaced by disco or other forms of collective or group fun.
