Summary/Abstract: Issues concerning health can be investigated in the economic sciences through the prism of the Theory of Human Capital. According to this theory, selected expenses of units (including ones for the improvement of own health condition) should be treated as investment in their human capital. Therefore, in the works of the quoted theory there are demands to measure analyzed sphere of expenses of units in the context of advantages and costs accompanying investments in the human capital. Life Expectancy (LE) and Healthy Life Years (HLY) are the indexes of the society’s state of health which show the state of health of whole population, quality of the health care, or conditions of the society’s life and are commonly accepted in the subject literature. These measures can be used while estimating advantages which arise upon investments in the human’s capital in the sphere of health. The comparative analysis of the above mentioned measurements, which synthetically reflect the health situation of the society in the EU countries, constituted the aim of the paper. Respective measures were analyzed in the female and male groups what, in consequence, enabled preparing analyses of the differences in the life expectancy and healthy life years of women and men. The Eurostat database constituted source of the empirical data. The time scope of the researches includes period from 2005 to 2012, whereas the spatial one – the EU countries (EU27). The analyses were also conducted in two groups of EU countries: countries of so called the Old Union (EU15) and the New Union (EU12).
