Summary/Abstract: The Chronicle of John, Coptic bishop of Nikiou in the Nile Delta, isone of the most important sources on Arab invasion of Egypt, as itcontains crucial details which are otherwise unknown. The articletries to demonstrate John’s view of Arabs and Islam and answer thequestion about Coptic attitude to Muslims in the Invasion Period.According to authors’ opinion Copts were passive bystanders of theArab-Byzantine war in Egypt. The historical work of John is full ofreferences to the ‘false faith of Chalcedon’, and the Arab invasion waspresented as the just punishment for cardinal sins of the Byzantines.It should be stressed that examples of Coptic collaboration with Muslimsdescribed in the Chronicle are incidental.
