Summary/Abstract: The article presents the diversity of population change in urban agglomerations of Bielsko-Biala, compared to surrounding rural areas. The paper presents the relationship between these areas in shaping the demographic development in the years 1975–2012. Two distinct periods of change were distinguished on the basis of analyses. In the first one (years 1975–1991), urban areas grew faster, which was determined by industrialization and urbanization. In the second period (years 1992–2012), rural areas had a high population growth rate.
