Summary/Abstract: The article deals with t he linguistic and aesthetic principles of characters’ understanding of the Christian values in the texts of Vasyl Stefanyk’s novels. The main constants oflanguage and thinking, which reproduce Pokuttian country folkideas concerning followingthe Christian ethics and morality, have been described. In the worldview of the peasants,depicted by Vasyl Stefanyk, elements of pagan belief, customarylaw, and mythologicalperception of the image of the world have been refl ected. The author’s position on theethical norms of the characters is not refl ected directly, but through the reference to livingconditions, their psychological self-consciousness. The texts of Vasyl Stefanyk containa positive assessment of such features of the peasants as benevolence, truthfulness, fearof sin, faith in God.
