Visualizations of the informal organizational structure supporting the assessment of its potential

Summary/Abstract: In addition to the undeniable cognitive value, the organization’s structure enables the company to achieve its goals. An informal organizational structure, often also called a network, allows insight into informal organizational practices and complements the formal structure. There is a relatively small number of studies in which the impact that different visualizations of the same network can have on inferences about certain aspects of the analyzed organization. The purpose of the article is to show that various ways of presenting an informal organizational structure allow to highlight certain features and properties of an organization desired in a given context, which leads to a more accurate assessment of its potential, e.g. in the area of cooperation between teams.
