Summary/Abstract: Situated between tradition and innovation, Romanian painting managed to be one of the representative messengers and ambassadors over time, making known the identity and ideals of itsolae Grigorescu, Ioan Andreescu,Romanian painting from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century cannot be done without anchoring Romanian arts in the European context. In Bucharest, the world of plastic artists from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century is a very complex one. There is even a rivalry between conformists and nonconformists in search of a radical renewal. Somestudents of L École des Beaux Arts in Bucharest had the privilege of receiving scholarships to study inEurope, at the Academia des Beaux Arts in Paris or Rome, in the workshops of Sebastien Cornu,Carolus Duran or Charles Lehman, or in that of Charles Maureau, students of the well-known painter Ingres. In such a context, the meeting between Matisse and Pallady took place, the two meeting in Paris from a young age and managing to remain united by a beautiful friendship all their lives. Out of this friendship and passion for Romanian traditions and civilization, Matisse created the La Blouse Roumaine canvas, which became a masterpiece and also a brand of Romanian identity.
