Summary/Abstract: The theoretical chapter of dissertation papers written by master's students represents a real challenge for them because the techniques of academic writing presuppose the judicious understanding of the sources consulted. To insert the discourse of others into their own production, students use a range of techniques, one of the most commonly used is quotation. As non-expert researchers, students face the difficulty of producing a scientific discourse, especially in a foreign language, and are often more tempted to align the quotations and repeat the source text identically than to rephrase. In this article, based on a corpus of dissertation papers in French linguistics and literature, written by students from Ovidius University of Constanta, we will identify and analyze the practice of quoting used by young writers to reproduce the discourse of others, when developing the theoretical chapter of their dissertation paper, which is not mastered by the students: on the one hand, the profusion of quotations and, on the other hand, the frequent lack of notation of sources.
