Summary/Abstract: The article brings to the attention of contemporaries the name of a forgotten scholar, member of the Romanian Academy: Gheorghe Popa-Lisseanu. He was a disciple of the great linguist BP Hasdeu and received the imprint of the encyclopedic study. He was interested in the history of Romanians and the old age of their language and he was a classical philologist, who studied Greek and Latin cultures, at the same time being also interested on the Dacian culture, as part of the ancient culture. The same effort was expressed in the case of Byzantine documents, especially to demonstrate the continuation of the Christian-Byzantine culture throughout the territory of Eastern Romania. To this end, he pursued and published medieval Latin and Greek texts, which referred to the Vlachs history.
