Summary/Abstract: The article intent is to make known the latest trends in electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors development, essential battlefield capabilities for military nations to gather and to provide in real-time unique intelligence to modern military operations as counter-terrorism, border protection and homeland security. Usually, EO/IR sensors are connected to the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)or intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities of modern military forces. Increasingly, EO/IR sensors are seen as a critical force multiplier decision, intelligence gathered result enabling a flexible and a sufficient deployment of military force within target area of interest, based on accurate and timely surveillance and reconnaissance.
