Summary/Abstract: Professor Jooseppi Julius Mikkola belonged to the most famous figures of Slavic studies in the early 20th century both in Finland and in the rest of Europe. His works, focusingon Slavic languages, culture and history, were prominent in this field. Special place in his research was reserved for Czech lands, to which he was connected not only through hisacademic work, but also through close personal friendships.
