Industry, politics, religion: the case of Nobel and the Russian-Ottoman war 1877 – 1878

Summary/Abstract: We researched the modernization of the Russian empire in the 19th century and the relations between industry, war, religion following the saga of the Nobel family in the Russian empire. We aim at provoking discussion about such clichés as “empire as prison of nations”, “reactionary role of aristocracy”, “just and unjust war”, “religious and economic war”.
