Summary/Abstract: Concentrating on current debates the article confronts notions of realism and interpretation. Challenging the position of those who see an irremovable contradiction between a realistic approach and a school of thinking putting the idea of interpretation in the first line, it tries to explain in what sense – today, after the linguistic turn – interpretation can be considered a form of realism. It highlights a dispute between realists and antirealists, stressing the importance of a whole controversy for shifting perspectives in the domain of political science and political thinking. Addressing the problem of interpretation and understanding it attempts to emphasize the role of hermeneutics as a model for reestablishing the influence of critical rationality in a confused world, where a notion of reality itself seems to be slipping away. Pointing to the notion of the linguistic turn and the classical Gadamerian idea of a hermeneutic experience it also tries to cast light on the delusions of dogmatic empiricism.
