Summary/Abstract: This article identifies the categories of René Girard’s anthropology in the content of The Crime and the Silence (My z Jedwabnego), a non-fiction book by Anna Bikont. The article stresses the mechanisms of mimetic violence and the scapegoat apparent in the events she describes. Bikont presents not only the results of her investigation into the events of 1941, but also the collective memory of the local community and its attitude to the public debate on the subject.
