Summary/Abstract: The year 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the violent clearance of Slovakia’s monasteries and convents. Simultaneously, the Communist government began establishing centralized monasteries and concentration camps to intern priests, monks and nuns. This paper details the dramatic events surrounding the clearing of the nuns of the Sisters of Mercy from the St. Vincent de Paul convent in Močenok and the concentrating of priests from the Brothers of the Christian Schools (De La Salle Order) in the village. Later, in July 1950, the first concentration camp was established there for Diocesan priests and members of religious orders in Slovakia. The significance of the events that unfolded in 1950 at the Močenok parish reverberate beyond the area’s local and regional history.
