Summary/Abstract: In the paper, book supplements have been distinguished as a separate type of books, belonging to the ”tie-in” genre, and the problem of terminology has been discussed. Nomenclature of these publications, which is used by both Polish and foreign publishing houses (American and British) is selected independently, regardless of the distinctiveness of this kind of books, which leads to terminological chaos, encountered by researchers. Thanks to a careful overview of notions used by Polish and foreign publishing houses, as well as the authors and readers themselves, and the analysis of the type of chosen works, it was possible to distinguish the notion of book supplements as an appropriate word for this phenomenon. At the same time, the notion of supplementary book has been applied to denote one variety of a book supplement.
