Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to analyze the place of a catechumen in the world based on the selected ancient pre-baptismal and mystagogical catecheses. Its references to the instructions issued by catechists from the 4th century (Cyril of Jerusalem, John Chrysostom, Theodore of Mopsuestia and Augustine of Hippo) aim to show how those authors present a candidate’s relation to the world around him in as far as a crucial change in his life: receiving the sacrament of baptism and entering the community of Church.
