Summary/Abstract: The ministry of Wilhelm Görlich – the first priest of the Parish Saint Michael in Opole, fell between the years 1937–1958. During the Hitlerian time the place of worship was built for the parish and as a part of a garrison as well. Throughout World War II the most difficult of challenges was the protection of the parish’ members against Nazi-ideology. Since the winter of 1944 people experienced evacuation, death and destruction. The church was also damaged. In spring 1945 there was a new context for the parish. The Opole region became a part of Poland. The restoration and creation of the new society of ethnic Silesians with migrating Poles had started. The ministry was handicapped by the public authority. Despite many successes Görlich left Opole in 1958 and immigrated to Bavaria.
