Summary/Abstract: The stability of the International System is generated by the interdependencies and interactions between different states and international organisations. The US and the EU are two of the most important powers of the International System and the bilateral partnership between them is much more stronger than any other global partnership. This article aims to analyze how the diplomatic relations between the US and the EU evolved along the economic and commercial dimension between 2016 and 2019. This period coincides with president Trump’s term in office, who promotes several contradictory policies to those in the EU. This article uses process tracing to analyze the events and development of bilateral relations. Its findings show that the relationships between the US and the EU in the last years were closer to a shape of war trade rather than a strong diplomatic partnership.
