Summary/Abstract: The author of the article states that the reference to the psalms in Russian poetry is connected, as a rule, with the significant changes in for this age religious, social and cultural consciousness. The following events are important: the publication of Simeon Polotski’s Rhyming Psalter (1680); the period of the split in church in the 17th century; searching for the new ways of expression during Peter the Great’s reforms; establishing postmodernistic poetry (1960s); first Soviet thaw; perestroyka (1980s); collapsing of the Soviet Union. The poetical transpositions of the first psalms, by the poet H. Sapgir, are the main subject of the article.
