Summary/Abstract: The art of playing cards in A. Pushkin’s The Queen of Spades, abounding in French and German phrases, inspires to consider the problem of functioning of adequate terminology in Russian. In Pushkin’s composition metalinguistic, semantic and discursive outlook of the phenomenon reveals the sense of a hidden death which executes the plan and its compositional course, established in the game. The paper refers to a well-known opinion by Yuri Lotman on a modeling function of a card game.
