Summary/Abstract: The immersion of the reader into the new media generates a series of questions concerning the specific characteristics of this type of reading. By confronting the traditional theories on reading (Paul Cornea, Matei Călinescu, etc.) with the new perspectives on reading in the digital environment (Andrew Piper, Naomi S. Baron, Sven Birkerts, etc.), our paper aims to approach the changes in the personal and collective reading practices as determined by switching from the paper book to the electronic one. Some of the questions that nourish our investigation are as follows: What does it mean digital reading when the reader is human and the meaning is a construction of the human mind? What are the characteristics of the digitalization of the act of reading and to what extent reading – one of the activities that best define humanity – has become posthuman in the current informational context?
