THE LANGUAGE CAUSE OF OMER SEYFETTIN

Summary/Abstract: Ömer Seyfettin's understanding of language, one of the founders of modern Turkish prose, is an important guide when dealing with Contemporary Turkish Literature. For this reason, in this study, the articles, anecdotes and stories written by Ömer Seyfettin were analyzed in order to examine his understanding of language. First of all, the value he attributed to the concept of language was summarized, then his thoughts that form his understanding of language were classified. According to this, Ömer Seyfettin's understanding of language consists of the following basic components: Nationalism, Populism, Westernization, Turkish unity ideal, naturalness and faith. These features are seen as a natural reflection of his worldview. The importance he attaches and the meaning he attributes to language should be understood in this context. Based on all these, it is possible to guess what kind of attitude Ömer Seyfettin would have for the current issues of Turkish language.
