Economic values of cultural heritage

Summary/Abstract: In the 19th and 20th century, the belief in the benefits of maintaining cultural heritage was dominant. However, the need to shape the national identity superseded the issue of financial support. The transition towards market economy at the beginning of the 21st century resulted in reducing cultural heritage to high cost-generating resources – costs only regional cultural heritage. This tendency will depend on the individual demand for manifestations of cultural heritage. Identification of the value (objective) of these resources will affect the degree of acceptance of financial expenditures necessary to maintain these resources.
