Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to present contemporary memoir stories with Poprad River in the foreground or in the background, coming from the middle section of the Polish-Slovak borderland. The inspiration and the research category is the concept of „cultural heritage correlate” proposed by Stanisław Ossowski. The memoir stories examined in the article testify to a strong relationship between people living on both its banks and the Poprad River. The river is assigned emotional, aesthetic and utilitarian values. In the light of the material presented and studied in the article, Poprad River appears as an important, personified element of the local cultural landscape, a witness to important events of official and unofficial history, a scenery of extraordinary events, an object of contemplation and aesthetic adoration, or a space of work and everyday life. These stories seem to be an interesting potential reservoir of motifs for place marketing; a potential one, since it is almost absent in the local promotional and tourist policy.
