Summary/Abstract: The author of the article discusses Adam Mickiewicz’s 21st sonnet of the Crimean cycle in the context of difficulties in literary translation. He has conducted a comparative analysis of translations of this sonnet into Belarusian, Russian and French. Attention is drawn to the differences in the interpretation of the beginning of this sonnet in the texts of every presented translators. Several versions of the perception of Mickiewicz’s metaphor “May dresses with spikelets embroidery” have been presented. Additionally, a new version of the translation of the sonnet into the Belarusian language has been offered.
