Summary/Abstract: The article discusses Italian themes in the novels of the 19th century Polish women writers Anna Nakvaska (“Powstaniec litewski”) and Teresa Jadwiga Papi (“Po ciernistej drodze”). The author of the article highlights the key concepts of Italian culture that are found in the analyzed literary works, focuses on the specific nature of an ethnic stereotype – the Poles’ idea of the Italian nation, which is reflected in the figurative system of characters (T. J. Papi’s novel “Po ciernistej drodze”) and plots (A. Nakwaska’s novel “Powstaniec litewski”).
