Summary/Abstract: After Romania solved the problem of fi nancial crisis of 1999-2000, the banking system has experienced a positive evolution, which was confi rmed by the favourable performance recorded in the last year. However, in the following years we will be witnesses of the great challenges meant to consolidate and extend our domestic banking system. The aim of this article is to analyse the recent developments of Romanian banking system and its prospects in the context of European integration.
