Summary/Abstract: Conference interpreting is an activity that goes beyond linguistic transfer. Cultural notions are barriers that must be overcome by the ingenuity of the interpreter in order to make sure that the speaker's message gets to the target audience without producing disagreements. Interpreters do more than finding appropriate linguistic equivalence. They shape the message of the speaker in order to be intelligible in another language but especially accessible for another culture. Politeness formulas are cultural elements that indicate how the inhabitants of a region that belong to a community are used to interact with each other. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that during the mediation process, the interpreter must pay particular attention to courtesy forms since they represent a criteria worthy of consideration regarding removing cultural differences.
