Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to make a holistic presentation of the position of central offices in the administrative structure. The authors present the division of these offices, differences between the central bodies and the principal organs and describe its competences and functions. In addition, supervision and control over central offices is presented. Central bodies are a very important element of modern administration. Its competence includes, above all: the current application of law and administrative tasks. The activities of these bodies are based on a professional, non-political administrative personnel. Along with the increase in the requirements for administrative bodies, ministerial structures cannot be only authority responsible for the tasks of the state. Membership of the Republic of Poland in the European Union enable operation under European law, cooperation with the administration of other Member States.
