Summary/Abstract: This text is the discourse of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, which was delivered at the annual conference of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice, founded by Pope John Paul II in 1993, after the title of his encyclical, published in 1991 to mark the centenary of the encyclical Rerum Novarum (1891). Faith is not limited to the “soul”, not without interest for the social dimension, but rather plays a crucial role on the social level. Today, we face a real crisis situation and its social effects can be seen on a global scale. This global crisis is considered to be a “crisis of solidarity”. How does this solidarity crisis arise? Patriarch Bartholomew refers to three areas in which this happens: in the field of economy and ecology, in that of science and technology, as well as in society and politics.
