Sketch on Sketches, Sketchbooks, and Sketching

Summary/Abstract: An outline of a project of studies on the sketch and the sketchbook. The author considers the polysemic nature of both terms and is particularly interested in the specific temporality of the sketch and situating it in the gap between the past and the future. In addition, she poses questions about the status of the sketch in relation to the completed work. Emphasis is placed on the significance of the sketch as a “handmade” object.
