Is Iran a competitive authoritarian state yet?

Summary/Abstract: Can the next democratic wave which has hit Arab countries in North Africa and Middle East reach the Islamic Republic of Iran? The article analysis the inner premises of the successful democratic transition in Iranian theocracy. The authors recognize the evident progress after 2009 presidential election which result was manipulated by incumbents either in society or among political elites. One basic scientific approach of analyzing, i.e. competitive authoritarianism, was used. However, the progress which was recognized in this category does not mean that democratization is close at hand in 2012, the year of coming parliamentary election.
