Summary/Abstract: Harry Stern was a respected Modernist architect and a leading teacher in the capital: in the Jewish College in Bucharest during WWII (1941-1944), and after the war, as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture in Bucharest (1952-1954). He is an example of the first generation of Jewish architects in Bucharest, nowadays nearly forgotten. This paper focuses on Harry Stern’s role as a teacher of architecture in the local context of Bucharest. His teaching material was based on his own contribution to Modernist architecture starting from the early 1930’s.
